ok...i guess that the explanation is this:
As you know the first version of FDA was missing the entry for the other languages (that's why after installing it you just saw a black space with no name)
Version 1.1 had the same problems but i persobnally fix that adding manually the entries and repacking the itinerary.
This fix was not done yet when i made r7612 and doppio servizio (was still 1.0 version)...maybe when you install them, the entries simply vanish and it's like you come back to the old version problem.
Are you talking about
Are you talking about version 1.1 or 1.0??
Version #
Version 1.1 of the route. Version 1.1 of Doppio Servizio. There is no version number on the Tremonti scenario.
Let me just add that the route is beautiful!
OldProf
FRUSTRATION!
After much travail, I managed to install the Ferrovia delle Alpi scenario, along with its required rolling stock and the Free Roam scenario. Then I tried to add the Tremonti scenario. After unpacking the scenario itself and its additional rolling stock, I started RS and discovered that the route was no longer listed! I quit RS, reinstalled the route, opened RS again and found both the route and the Tremonti scenario listed; the scenario ran just fine. So, I quit RS and tried installing the Doppio Servizio 1.1 scenario and its additional rolling stock. Started RS and--sure enough--the route had vanished again. While this now-you-see-it-now-you-don't nonsense is going on, Kickstart consistently reports that both the route and its scenarios are installed.
I don't know what on earth is going on here, but I do remember experiencing similar frustration trying to install and run Italian routes and scenarios on MSTS. Can any forum member suggest some solutions? English or Italian answers are fine with me!

It seems that after the patch the packager works fine and does not corrupt the XLM file!

Mountains in RS are not
Mountains in RS are not shown in their full shape due to the lack of a 5M DEM (elevations) source that
offers data in the HGT format. RS allegedly has the ability
to present higher resolution elevations but the REFUSE to use a more universal file format such as BIL.
Or, they REFUSE to offer a converter from HGT to BIL that allows 5meter per elevation point data.
If RS was able to use currently available 5meter data you would see well shaped mountains instead
of "lumps" and triangularly shaped outcroppings.

Haze
Hi Dick !
I am talking about the HAZE in the views, preventing mountain terrain and it's scenery details from being visible until almost in front of them ! :-(
The accuracy of the shape of the mountains is secondary as far as I am concerned, not knowing what they really look like, the Matterhorn and the Eiger being exceptions. :-)

thank YOU Otto.
I was wondering...Adam and CO. are on holyday??
Last night i tryed to uninstall the object package but i got an error about an exception...
i'll post later the text.
Do you think is connected to the other problem??
Will someone be able to create his own scenario starting from your free roam one??
Will people be able to use new scenarios we'll make in the future based on the "original route"?
Too many questions eh?? :-)
Uninstalling Routes
Hi Luca !
If RS can not uninstall the route after clicking on it's name in the routes menu then perhaps Mike Simpson's RS_Tools_TMB.exe can ?
If not then simply delete it's {cRouteProperties.....{/cRouteProperties} paragraph in the Routes.xml and delete it's Routes folder.
Had to use curly brackets, the "code" tag not showing the proper ones ! :-(
Yes, new scenarios can be added to either copy of the ALPS route. The only difference between your and my copy is a new tunnel portal at the North-East end of the route, also having aligned the terrain with the tracks there, the GPS Named Route Markers which will also be shown in your copy as will be my rails ! :-)
I might also place the overhead wire masts which are missing in that part of the route. ;-)
I am waiting for your revised scenarios which should also install into my copy, using Mike Simpson's RouteSetup.exe and if that is the case shall then make them available from my web site too !
Mike is telling me that RSDL are working on an update for the RSPackager/UnPackager, which should take care of some of the problems they still have ?

Ready to Run ALPS Route Version
There having been many disappointed downloaders of this excellent route, not being able to run it because of assets required by it not being installed on their computers and Mike Simpson reporting that some of the rolling stock it's scenarios require is no longer available from the web sites quoted in it's README, I have made my usual stand-alone Freeroam only version of it available, RS simmers can have fun with until the original version has been sorted out to allow all to run it's scenarios.

Would have liked to give you credit in it's README, lucacanna, but there is no mention of your real name in any of the route's READMEs ! :-(
HAVE FUN !!!

Thanks for the named markers :-)

Found four posts by bremen79 in the trenomania.org forum, the last one posted in April, but no mention of a solution for the hazy distant mountains problem.
Would really put the cherry on top of the cake if we could get rid of it in your ALPS route ! :-)

Dick...that's very strange...
Do you have other routes installed??
Is the RS folder enable for writing??
Try to delete the package, and reinstall it.
The problem in this case is the route.xml file.
If there's no way to let it work on your pc, we can do this:
I wll give you my route.xml file.
1) make a backup of your route.xml file.
2)install the route
3)replace your route.xml with mine one.
After this you can see the route in the menu but you don't see the other custom routes previously installed.
4) make a new route package (just the path of course[alps.rpk])
5)Uninstall the route
6)place again the original route.xml file.
7)install again the route alps by YOUR package.
Voilà :-)
let me know if works.
Hi
I've got same problem as well cannot find the routes when running RailSimulator. I've got all the english version files installed.

Alps Route does not appear in Rail Simulator
After downloading and unzipping the file Alps_V1.01.rar, and then installing Oggetti.rpk and then Alps V1.0.rpk; as well as copying the Alps.bin and loading_alps.TgPcDx to the assets folder as directed; the route does not appear as a selectable route in Rail Simulator
Names GPS Route Markers for the Alps Route
Doing my usual Freeroam sightseeing of a new route I noticed that it had no "Named Route Markers", so I created some:
www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/rs/alps-route-markers.zip
Placing player services into some of these locations can then start driving any one of them.
Can't get rid of the "Hagen to Siegen" ones which were there before.
While I was driving along the route, I once again became aware of how these hazy/foggy views spoil this otherwise beautiful route.
Unless this is fixed soon would not consider creating one, wasting my time on providing detailed scenery nobody can see until close up.

It reminds me the silly restriction of 1.3 km in Trainz. This should not happen in RS, with a suposedly up to date graphics engine. It really does not encourage to create detailed scenery. In the meanwhile, no clue about what is going to be updated in the MK2 patch, or when it will be released.... "soon". Of course. I think we get another payware route from RSDL before the patch.
I rather like the hazy look,
I rather like the hazy look, its more realistic. How many places on the planet do you get super clear views any more?
Gotta watch speed in those tunnel turns, so easy to flip wagons!

Almost everywhere I have been. On the European continent and in the USA. Do you watch TV now and then ? If so then what do you see in other parts of the world, Beijing and other polluted by industry skies excepted ! :-(

Common, Otto, I don't know
Common, Otto, I don't know where you live in the UK, but I been there and seen pollution, haze and fog! I've been in France and Germany and seen heavy mists in the morning in the mountains. In North America, I don't know where you've been but mountains here get heavy mists in the early morning until about 11am. Many cities over here have bad polution, (L.A.,Denver,Atlanta,Houston,Mexico City,Lima,Santiago,Pittsburgh and New York to name a few. Even where I live, southeast Florida we get 25-30 days a year with a yellow pollution haze over the city.

i'm happy you like it guys...
Otto, you don't have to install version 1.00 before.
Just last one i linked.

scenarios are not mine...
Were made by Pedro.
I honestly never tryed to load them since i like to test routes creating my own one.
I'll try to load them later and let you know.
99.9% you miss something (wagon or loco).
How did you install the wagons with "Install.bat" file??
FOR OTTO
We're trying to customize not only mountains, but vegetations to.
I see many people is having problems with shaders for that.
Anyway the distant mountain problem, is not going to be fixed soon (i never heard about an upcoming fix)
Maybe it will never be fixed.
Apart from this i think that after almost 1 year, it's time to provide users with something new to play with.
At the moment there're no customized routes.
The few available use mostly default objects, and german objects (even if route is not german :-)
This route will be updated with new objects that will replace the few not italian that are still present.
Take a look at the route.
If you like mountains itinerary, you will enjoy!
Try to believe :-)
MAGNIFICENT !!!
Hi !
This is no doubt the best RS route I have come accross and being an Austrian I like mountains, forests and other attractive looking scenery !!!
Much custom scenery and many new objects have been added. That the mountain tops do not look like the Alps is compensated for by some distant mountains looking like these below, which could be snow. ;-)
I wish RSDL would do something about this Fog/Haze which spoils much of the mid to distant views in scenic routes like this one, Clear and Partly Cloudy having been used !
Changed the rails to my modified Siegen-Hagen ones, having brighter tops and a better looking railhead ! :-)
If you and others like them have put them one my web site: www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/rs/alps-route-rails.zip
The placing of the catenary masts is sheer pefection, all their support arms properly making contact with the overhead wires and are placed exactly where the O/H kinks are in curves. Doing that must have taken some considerable time !
How did you manage to show the O/H wires in the Bath tunnels ?
The Freeroam scenario loco's panto also lines up properly with the O/H !
Was a bit confused installing it to start with, not realising that the V1.0 must be installed before V1.01 and have also installed NEWS D-Zug.
The Freeroam and "Merci per Cimalago", which looks just like the Freeroam scenario, work perfect. But the "Merci Delle" causes "Runtime Error" and the "ES 4521" a "Send....". Probly missing some rolling stock which does not bother me as I prefer to run Freeroam scenarios in all my RS routes !
Thanks for making that route available, I shall have a lot of fun with in between working on other RS jobs ! :-)
Take care,
CIAO, O t t o.

Hi,
The route is good, but there is a problem with downloading rolling material. Because of that, scenarios doesn't work. Only free ride is working. For download "Container Pack V1 e V2" I must have password and for "D-Zug_Skins_by_Dave" the file is deleted. Otherwise is great.

Hi guys...
Further to Otto specifications, Alps landscape is not the same in every countries.
You'll see that from the template screenshoot.
You're wright...the DM problem in RS doesn't allow to make beautiful landscapes...but trust me some alpin areas look exactly like the route!
Anyway on our website is available as download a new texture for mountains!

Track Gradients
Hi !
I am having problems applying track gradients when putting down new tracks with all but the Barstow-San Bernardo tracks.
P.S.: Not any more, having found the solution to this problem:
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/showpost.php?p=1414751&postcount=5
Which Trackrule do you use for this Italian Alps route, which I am sure has many gradients.
I appreciate that creating rocky and snow topped mountains in RS is not possible using existing assets. If new ones are not rocky and their upper regions not covered in snow then calling them ALPS is like calling sparkling wine Champagne. :-)
Just as an example of what is involved in creating good looking scenery for Alps train simulator routes, it took Max Merlin and Carlo Santucci 4975 photo-realistic terrain tiles to create it for their WIP MSTS Swiss Bernina route.
The MS-TS-2 Swiss route has the advantage of being able to use their MS-FX World scenery, we have yet to see Swiss samples of and flying a plane over it's Swiss Alps is as good as doing it for real ! :-)
Having been asked whether it would be possible to make the snow on their peaks and in glaciers more white, this was my feeble attempt of adding whiter snow to just one of these terrain tiles, before and after :-(
No way would I attempt to do better in many of these thousands of tiles, even if I could ! :-)
From what I remember the North of Italy and French Alps to look like, they look the same as those in Switzerland.
http://www.italiantourism.com/alps.html
Which region of Italy will your route be in ?
Ciao, O t t o
Looking forward to "FS"
Looking forward to "FS" routes. Any FS engines and rolling stock?
Italian Alps
That is not what the Alps look like, no mountains in RS looking like the real ones, especially not distant ones !
Below are ALPS as portrayed by the upcoming MSTS Swiss Bernina route which starts in the Italian Alps North of Tirano, compared with photos of the real one and being an Austrian, having traveled the Austrian, Swiss and Italian Alps by rail, should know what the real ones look like, having taken these pictures of the real Bernina on one of my Swiss railway holidays !
Release a RS route looking like that and I shall BUY it ! :-)
Looking forward to what the MS-TS-2 version of an alpine route will look like, using the MSFS-X world.

Fans of alpine scenic railway routes might enjoy looking at this:
www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/switzerland
O t t o
You do know this is about
You do know this is about someone making something with RS don't you? ,not about MSTS or MSTS2 -If your not interested in it ,you don't have to get it but please stop trying to push your MSTS stuff in someone else's RS route thread its getting old and annoying.
Pushing MSTS
If you carefully read what I have posted you will notice that I am showing comparisons with the real European Alpine scenery and one that has been achieved in another train simulator and it does not matter what it is called. BVE is another one that can do it !
These routes also require custom made overhead wire systems, prototypical stations, rolling stock, signalling and buildings like found in European alpine regions, all of which are present in Carlo Santucci's Bernina !
If any train simulator is not capable of displaying scenery and other content which comes close to what it should look like then don't bother creating routes for it ! If it is Payware then it won't sell and if it is Freeware then it will finish up in the trash can.
The same goes for tracks, rolling stock, buildings and other contents such as the weather.
RSDL have achieved much with the new IOW route, but portraying ALPS the way they should look like would require the creation of the appropriate terrain to cover them.
